WHAT IS WEBHOSTING?
The Information Technology Division of the University of Stellenbosch offers three value-added web hosting options. These hosting options are available not only to web sites of Stellenbosch University, but also those bodies or institutions operating within an academic environment that would like to make use of our affordable hosting options. The focus will be on providing services to non-profit entities. As such, a distinction is drawn between US web sites and US-related web sites.
Three hosting packages are on offer. These differ on the basis of the platform used (Windows vs. Linux) as well as the functionality which becomes available (Static vs. Dynamic Web sites).
Existing Stellenbosch University homepages may be upgraded and/or migrated to a Windows environment supporting php or to a Linux environment, should they so prefer. In making use of these, the latter option, end-users may now add more interactivity to their Web sites, exploiting the functionality available on the respective platforms.
